One suspect has been shot dead and a search is on for the other one after two Houston police officers were shot responding to a burglary-in-progress call this afternoon in a residential area.
The neighborhood where the shooting occurred is on lockdown and residents have been told to stay inside and take cover.
According to the Houston mayor, one of the officers lives in the area and was the first to respond. Mayor Tuner also said the suspects had several stolen guns and they opened fire on responding officers, as reported by KHOU.
One officer is listed in critical condition with several gunshot wounds. One of the bullets is lodged near his spine, according to Mayor Tuner.
The other officer was shot in the leg and back, but his wounds are considered not life-threatening.
This is a breaking story. We will update as more information becomes available.
