Little Rock police helicopter crashes after takeoff

A police helicopter in Little Rock will never take to the sky again after the Bell TH-67 flipped over during an attempted takeoff last week.

Pilot William Denio was attempting to take off from a rolling platform on Thursday, assigned with testing new equipment aboard the craft. During takeoff, the helicopter’s skid appears to have caught the platform and caused the aircraft to flip over on its side.

According to KATV, Denio suffered a head injury in the crash, but was pulled from the wreckage by ground crew members.

Police are claiming that a straight-line wind knocked the helicopter off the platform, though review of the footage is raising questions about this assessment.

The incident is under investigation.
