Chief Kenneth Hartman –former head of the Far Hills Police Department in New Jersey– spent 25 years in law enforcement. His reputation is now being tarnished over 22 graphic messages he allegedly sent to Detective Jason Shanaphy’s wife last August, which are all listed at the end of this article.
Shanaphy, a 44-year-old Operation Desert Storm veteran, reported the alleged harassment to his manager and filed a lawsuit claiming he was unjustly demoted to patrolman after making the complaint.
That’s when the explicit text messages were released, including some that talked about Shanaphy specifically: “I do know you love Jason. I also know we have desires. I’m completely trustworthy. I will not say anything. I like you. Period. I love [wife’s name]. But we both know we are missing passion in our marraiges (sic).”
“The complaint reveals a series of breathless, desperate and sexual messages that Hartman allegedly sent Shanaphy’s wife one evening last year while sitting alone in his Denville home’s garage,” My Central Jersey reported.
‘Please do not tell. Have wanted to text you because I want to have sex with you,’ one of the first messages read. According to court papers, Hartman sexted: “Alone. Want to kiss you. Slow sexy. Slow touches. Move over you.” He continued, “One time just you and me. One time. Darkness. Touching. Kissing. Being naughty. You and me.”
According to the papers, Shanaphy’s wife only responds to him once saying, “Stop f***ing around.” Astonishingly, Hartman’s texts last August even made reference to his wife’s cancer. “Please. Understand [wife’s name]’s f***ed up since chemo. I’m serious. You drive me crazy.”
The recent sexual harassment suit comes just six years after Hartman allegedly tried to solicit Shanaphy’s first wife as they were finalizing their divorce, according to the NJ newspaper.
The lawsuit states: “The chief’s actions toward Officer Shanaphy and his wife constitute a serious abuse of his public office.”
Hartman confessed to sending the messages, apologized and the complaint was dropped, according to My Central Jersey. He then retired in May.
