‘Journey’ cassette tape forces evacuation in uptown Charlotte

Perhaps it’s a sign of the times in more way than one.

Following days of headlines about suspicious packages sent to high profile politicians and political pundits, the Charlottte-Mecklenburg police had to shut down a busy uptown street this morning to investigate one left in front of the Duke Energy building.

However, the manilla envelop with “suspicious” handwriting on it turned out to simply be a ‘Journey’ cassette tape. Being that cassette tapes haven’t been popular in 25 years, one can understand a younger employee or passerby being confused by the package, even if contents were visible.

Several buildings in the area were evacuated, but the all-clear has since been given.
