The Montgomery County Police Department has released the body-cam video of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on Wednesday.
According to WJLA, Sgt. David Cohen was investigating a call about a erratically behaved man who had a knife and was throwing rocks through windows.
When Sgt. Cohen arrived he quickly found Finan Berhe walking around the apartment community parking lot. Sgt. Cohen immediately spotted the knife in Berhe’s hands and began to shout commands at him to drop the knife and get on the ground.
Sgt. Cohen shouted these commands for roughly a minute as Berhe began testing his boundries.
At one point, Berhe charged at the officer only to back off and retreat. Sgt. Cohen showed restraint by not firing his weapon then.
After about another minute, Sgt. Cohen tells Berhe that he doesn’t want to shoot him and again tells him to drop the knife and get on the ground.
This time, Berhe goes for it all and begins charging at the officer.
Sgt. Cohen fired five rounds at Berhe, incapacitating him.
Berhe died from his wounds.
The Montgomery County Police Department has placed Sgt. Cohen on paid administrative leave until an investigation into the shooting is complete.
