Body camera footage out of Arizona shows just how fast an officer has to make decisions in a dangerous moment.
On Tuesday, Aug. 1, Phoenix Police officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 35th Avenue and Bell Road following reports of a man brandishing a firearm.
As they approached the scene, dispatch informed the patrol officers that the suspect in question had previously been threatening locals within the community and was likely doing it again.
Upon arrival, patrol officers encountered the man, who drew his pistol from his waistband and charged at the police SUV.
Body cam footage shows the officer in the passenger seat of the SUV dismount from the vehicle and open fire as the suspect passes him.
After the officer instructed the suspect to put his hands behind his back, the suspect claimed “he didn’t do nothing.”

The identity of the suspect will not be released until he is released from hospital and booked in the local jail.
The four-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department who opened fire on the suspect is being treated in accordance with investigation protocols.
An internal investigation is underway and will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office once it has concluded.
