A Houston Police horse went AWOL while on duty yesterday, going for a trot around town after his rider was forced to deal with a criminal.
Astro and his HPD Mounted Patrol Officer were first to the scene of a citizen’s arrest at a hotel, where a robbery suspect was being held.
During the arrest, the suspect began to struggle with the officers and ultimately spooked Astro, sending him running down a busy street at full gallop.
According to Click2Houston, his flight was recorded by Mark Ames, who filmed the bizarre sight near Minute Maid Park.
Astro was loose for about five minutes before police regained control of him. It is unknown if he will receive any formal reprimand for his cowardice.
