Despite raising over $130 million, Hillary Clinton seems to have issues dropping a few thousand for police security for her events.
According to WHOTV, one invoice, which amounts to nearly $1,800, is dated from November 19th of last year.
This isn’t the first instance of Clinton not paying her bills in Iowa- the smaller city of Marshalltown is still waiting on security from two Clinton-related events in January, with a bill of over $2,700.
Marshalltown Chief Michael Tupper sent out an invoice on February 3rd, requesting reimbursement for police services. Since he never received a reply, he sent out another invoice in March.
“I think the most frustrating part is these events cost a lot of money for our communities and it’s not just law enforcement that’s impacted by these events, but they’re very costly, especially for a small town like Marshalltown, (with) a small police force. They distract us from the other duties of the day and we’re happy to help out, but we don’t have unlimited financial resources that can cover all these security requests,” said Tupper.
The invoices didn’t even cover the full costs of the event- instead, they merely covered overtime.
Tupper explained that the invoices don’t “cover the costs that I incurred with captains and lieutenants and supervisors planning the event or detectives getting ready for the event, pre-event. I just ask for my expenses in overtime for the day of the event.”
On the same day Hillary was in Marshalltown, Donald Trump held an event in the same area. The cost of services for his event totaled around $3,600. Bernie Sanders paid his bill up front before visiting in January.
The Clinton campaign has been generally silent on the matter, though they state that they are in the process of paying the police departments.
