A former Hamilton County teacher arrested and charged with aggravated statutory rape has been indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury.
Members of the grand jury found Casey McGrath, 28, “did unlawfully and knowingly engage in sexual penetration with a person of at least 13 years of age, but less than 18,” while saying McGrath was “at least 10 years older than the victim,” according to the indictment dated Aug. 14.

McGrath was suspended without pay on March 31 from her position as a 10th grade geometry teacher at Central High School, pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct. She no longer works for Hamilton County Schools, a district official said Monday.
McGrath ‘s bond was set at $10,000, according to the indictment, and she has been released from jail. She is due to appear before Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman on Sept. 6 to be arraigned. Her attorney will be announced or appointed by the judge during the hearing.
McGrath was recognized as teacher of the month in October 2021, according to an article from The Central Digest, the school’s online publication. The post was deleted after news outlets reported McGrath’s arrest Monday.
