A female javelin coach in Pennsylvania is accused of grooming and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy.
In what is just one of many such cases of female teachers abusing their positions to groom minors, Hannah Marth was arrested following evidence that she had engaged in a sexual relationship with a student athlete.
The 26-year-old began the relationship in 2021, and crossed a serious line of no return in May of that year, when Marth texted the lad and invited him to her home.
The two reportedly had sex, the Northampton District Attorney’s Ofice stated.
The two carried out a relationship that lasted until October.
According to the New York Post, after confessing to police what she had done, Marth was charged with felony institutional sexual assault and felony sexual assault by a sports official.
“A trusted relationship between a student-athlete, an athlete’s parent, and a coach can be a vulnerable one,” said District Attorney Terence Houck. “An abuse of that relationship shows a coach’s blatant disregard for the well-being of those she or he coached, and above all- the law. “This defendant defied that trust when she committed this alleged crime against the victim.”
Marth was arraigned on Thursday and freed on a $75k unsecured bail.
