“He shot at me,” officer returns fire after drug-dealing suspect points gun at him in body cam video

Body camera footage has been released depicting the events of an August 14th officer-involved shooting between Milwaukee Police and an armed suspect.

The 29-year-old suspect who was shot an arrested on the city’s north side, Jamel D. Barnes, was reportedly armed with a purple 9mm SCCY budget handgun and was fleeing police when he attempted to take aim at officers and opened fire.

Several shots later, Barnes was incapacitated by Officer Anthony Milone and later taken into custody.

According to the Journal Sentinel, Barnes was spotted participating in a drug transaction and was pursued by the officers. By the time authorities had sufficient evidence and paperwork, the Milwaukee resident was charged with intentionally pointing a firearm at a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a felon, cocaine possession, narcotic drug possession and four counts of bail jumping.

Barnes faces up to 58 years in prison.
