A Greenville police officer shot and killed, with the suspect committing suicide shortly afterwards.
According to WYFF4, The officer was shot around 12:30 pm Friday while in pursuit of a suspect.
Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller says said two officers were serving a warrant on a “self-admitted gang member.” He said that when the suspect saw the officers, he ran toward a path that leads to a local trail.
During the pursuit, the suspect turned and opened fire, hitting one of the officers multiple times.
The suspect continued to run toward the trail, where Greenville police had posted officers before the warrant serving operation was to begin. Miller after the suspect saw the officers, he called his mother and then shot himself. Officers performed CPR on the suspect until EMS arrived. He died at the scene.
Meanwhile, other officers attempted to revive their fallen comrade, to no avail. He was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital, name withheld until the family is notified.
According to Miller, losing an officer is difficult. “We lose, we hurt, we ache,” he said. “Our community does too.”
Miller said said he will speak again at 5:30 p.m. from Greenville City Hall, where he will release the name of the fallen officer.
