The man who was shot by an armed woman after assaulting an Indiana Conservation Officer has succumbed to his wounds.

The incident reportedly took place Monday afternoon near Rising Sun, when an off-duty officer responding to a suspicious person call was assaulted by 32-year-old Justin Holland, who resisted arrest.

“At some point, that officer began to lose that altercation with that person,” said Indiana State Police Sergeant Stephen Wheeles. “It was at that time that a female who was nearby saw what was taking place and decided that she needed to take action and come to the assistance of that officer.”

The woman, who lived at a nearby residence, took aim at Holland’s torso and filed a single shot.

According to NBC4i, Holland was taken to the hospital and died of his wounds.

The conservation officer was also taken to the hospital and treated.

The woman has not been charged and the incident remains under investigation.

Justin Holland was a known drug user who had several run-ins with the law, including theft from family members.
