A frightened dog found himself wedged in the undercarriage of a Phoenix police cruiser, prompting a humorous attempt to rescue him.

According to KTLA, the incident occurred on Wednesday when Phoenix PD Lieutenant Tom Van Dorn spotted a pack of small dogs running down the street while he was on patrol

“There was a pack of dogs, about 4 to 5 little dogs, just kind of running down the middle of the street, blocking traffic,” Van Dorn said. “So I pulled up slowly; ended up hitting the horn on the patrol car to try to get them to disperse. Most of them took off running but one little guy ended up darting underneath the police Tahoe.”

Unfortunately, despite efforts from Van Dorn and local residents, the dog buried himself in the undercarriage and would not move.

“He just appeared to be scared; he was shaking,” Van Dorn said. “He was just scared and really didn’t want to come out for us.”

Despite an attempt at a bribe with a hot dog, the “Chihuahua-type” dog would not leave. Finally, Maricopa Animal Care and Control took custody of the dog and will find his owners or assign him a new home.

Lieutenant Van Dorn is no stranger to media. In August of 2015, he was spotted at a block watch party doing Zumba dances to motivate the community.
