The Fresno Police Dept has just formed a new task force — known as the “Delta Team”– that will respond to active shooter situations, terrorist-style attacks and ambushes.
Chief Jerry Dyer formed the task force in response to the deadly massacres in San Bernardino and Orlando.
One week after the team was created, the members received their first emergency call. A Fresno woman was being held hostage by her ex-boyfriend and the task force successfully defused the situation.
Chief Dyer told CBS47 that the small group of SWAT members are ready to respond to an emergency in a moment’s notice and stabilize the situation until the rest of the team can get there.
“The quicker you can have people there with proper training and proper equipment, the less likely you will have lives lost or injuries occur,” Sergeant Marty True said.
The Delta Team is available around-the-clock and does not cost the taxpayers any extra money since those SWAT members are already part of the police force.
