Forget The Dunk Tank: Police raffle off ‘tase-a-cop’ for charity

A police union in Louisiana is taking extreme action to achieve a successful Christmas toy drive.

Their plan: use a stun gun April 15 on one of its own officers for charity.

The Associated Press reports the DeRidder police chief says this idea comes from officers themselves.

“They are willing to do whatever it takes … to purchase toys for local families in need,” said Police Chief John Gott.

Gott says to mitigate risks; a certified instructor will shoot the stun gun under controlled conditions, showing what officers must endure in training.

According to AP reporting, the prize is intended for adults.

That detail wasn’t included on community flyers, Gott says, and may have contributed to some negative reactions. But he says reaction has been largely positive.
