A disgraced former Florida deputy is facing charges after she defrauded her agency out of nearly $4,000 in COVID-related leave.

Former Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Trent Kellee Freeman was arrested recently in response to her fraudulent misuse of medical leave.

Freeman, who claimed she was in a coma, had been working a private sector job while she was allegedly “in the hospital” on medical leave.

To legitimize the appearance of her scheme, Freeman forged signatures of family members and medical personnel.

According to WEAR, she received 219 hours worth of PTO during the scam, totaling $3,727.

She was fired on October 15 and turned herself in to the jail shortly after.

“No matter the circumstances or situation, we will strive to make sure our employees do the right thing at all times. This is an unfortunate situation, but this in no way represents the men and women as a whole who work at the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Bobby Schultz.
