A man in Oklahoma believed his fishing partner was trying to feed him to Bigfoot.
The two men tussled, resulting in the latter man’s death.
The Oklahoman reports how 53-year-old Larry Doil Sanders was arrested over the weekend on an outstanding warrant after he informed the daughter of Jimmy Glenn Knighten that he had killed her father.
The same Oklahoman article continues to report that the two men were in a wooded area along the South Canadian River—which is located in Pontotoc County—to go noodling together on Saturday afternoon. That was when Sanders became convinced Knighten intended to summon the legendary cryptid.
“LARRY advised he believed JIMMY was trying to get away from him so that the sasquatch could eat LARRY,” writes Special Agent Justin Brown of the state Bureau of Investigation, who interviewed the man.
“LARRY would not let JIMMY get away. LARRY punched JIMMY and struck JIMMY with a stick. LARRY and JIMMY fought for an extended amount of time on the ground.”
ABC affiliate KTEN states how Sheriff John Christian later informed news outlets how Sanders—who “appeared to be under the influence of something”—eventually strangled Knighten until he expired. After confessing to Knighten’s daughter, he aided investigators by drawing a map of the area and giving them directions to the body.
Knighten’s body was recovered from the area on Sunday afternoon. Sanders was charged by authorities with first degree murder.
The Daily Beast adds that, should Sanders be found guilty, he could face the death penalty at the local prosecutor’s request.
