An NYPD officer and bodybuilder claims his former supervisor leered at him and grabbed his crotch while they were in her office- and has filed an EEOC complaint.
Ex-NYPD Officer Risel Martinez filed an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaint on October 13 after he claimed he was groped and leered at while assigned to the department’s gun range ballistic vest unit.
Martinez has aimed his complaints at Sergeant Laverne Wilson-Valis, who was his supervisor in the ballistic vest unit.
When Martinez got to the unit in May of last year, he claims things “started to get a little weird.”
“So we’d be there and then she’d make comments like, ‘Wow, Martinez, you’re getting bigger, you’re getting stronger,’ and I’d be like, OK, thank you?” the five-year NYPD veteran told the New York Daily News.
At one point, he claims she molested him while they were alone in their office.
“Now she puts her hand on my groin area, and then she places her hand right above my butt,” said Martinez. “She pushes me back, looks at my penis -like, directly at my penis- and then pushes me forward and looks at my butt.
Fortunately, another officer witnessed the event at the last moment.
“And when I look at her, she just steps back, puts her hands up and giggles. I was just so confused. I felt extremely humiliated. It was incredibly demeaning and dehumanizing,” Martinez reflected.
In August, an EEO letter surfaced claiming that “the allegation that Sergeant SA Wilson-Valis subjected you to sexually harassing conduct and that she lacked professionalism and respect in her daily interactions with members of service assigned to the Vest Unit was deemed SUBSTANTIATED.”
Wilson-Valis was only ordered to go to a professionalism seminar as a result.
To make matters more interesting, Martinez was fired from NYPD in the same month as the incident, after video footage surfaced of him drawing his sidearm on people recording him in a Harlem building- and then punching one of them in the head.
He wasn’t fired he’s currently on patrol in brooklyn.
