The day before a Baton Rouge deputy was critically wounded in the July 17 attack that killed three officers, he had a chance encounter with a woman by the side of the road that has left his family marveling at the providence of life.

James Tullier, the father of East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Tullier, told the story Tuesday (Aug. 2) in a Facebook post that has received 14,000 likes and been shared more than 6,800 times.

After Nick Tullier finished his July 16 shift at 8 p.m., he started his drive home to Livingston Parish when he saw a woman with small children on the side of the road. The woman had a flat tire so Tullier pulled over to help.
