A police department in California has released body camera footage that shows a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place late last year.
The Torrance Police Department, who are investigating the shooting, said that the footage was taken not long after a man flagged them down and told them that his car had been stolen.
After a short search, police found the stolen vehicle and ordered Christopher Mitchell, a known gang member, to exit the vehicle.
“Get out of the car!” an officer ordered.
“My bad, I didn’t…” Mitchell replied, armed with what appeared to be a rifle.
“Get out of the car!” the officer reiterated.
Suddenly, gunshots.
Mitchell’s “rifle” later turned out to be a Crosman air gun, and failure to comply with police orders resorted in shots being fired.
According to ABC7, Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene and no officers were injured.
