Reports of robberies aren’t very uncommon on the mean streets of Motor City- but this would-be Detroit robber was stopped in his tracks by an armed citizen who was forced to protect himself.

29-year-old Sanchez Quinn attempted to rob two men at gunpoint on Sunday night outside of a convenience store on the city’s east side.

Unfortunately for Quinn, he picked the wrong guys to rob. One of the victims -authorized to carry in the state of Michigan- drew his sidearm and shot Quinn several times.

The armed citizen -who did not reveal his identity for obvious reasons- was interviewed by Fox2 via phone.

“I turned and looked and saw the other gentleman had a gun pointed at my face,” the man said. “I was able to knock his hand down and the gunfire rang out.”

Fortunately for the citizen, the entire incident was caught on surveillance video.

Quinn’s mother, Cynthia Quinn, rushed to the hospital once she was informed that her son was shot. Upon arrival, she was met by police.

“When I went to my son’s room I was stopped by two police officer[s], [who] told me to get out of my son’s room,” she said. “‘Why is you in here? You cannot be here.'”

Police informed her that she was not allowed to contact her son, who had been arrested along with his partner-in-crime.

For the armed citizen, it is a frustrating situation. During the exchange of gunfire, his cousin was wounded.

“It makes me mad because you have people out here that work every day. They are innocent; you want to take from them,” the man said. “These guys, I definitely feel don’t need to be back out on the street because someone else might get hurt and it might happen in a different way.”

  1. That’s the price to pay when you prey upon good, solid citizens! ACTION beats re-action every time. Video don’t lie there Momma. The Boy was B-A-D!!!

  2. “‘Why is you in here?” I really doubt those were the words the police used. As for whether her son is dead or alive, he was in a hospital room, not the morgue–and no doubt under arrest. Don’t blame police, blame how this young man was raised. Committing armed robbery is not the usual outcome if you are raised right.
