Emergency services across the country affected by Century Link ‘technical problem’

Century Link Communications is facing criticism after emergency cellular services faltered across the United States, a “technical problem” that potentially endangered the lives of countless citizens.

The Louisiana-based company reported that several cell services across the county were disrupted by the outage.

According to CNN, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai deemed the outage”completely unacceptable,” adding that he spoke to CenturyLink about his concerns and has ordered an investigation.

“When an emergency strikes, it’s critical that Americans are able to use 911 to reach those who can help,” Pai said in a statement.

The Massachusetts State police spoke of the issues on Twitter earlier today, reporting that they had been resolved.

“Technical issues with the 911 system, and the resulting wireless capability outages, have been resolved,” the agency wrote. “Massachusetts callers may resume using 911 from their cell phones for public safety emergencies.”

Seattle and Salt Lake City also reported wireless outages, as well as other select locations. Internet outages were reported in several locations, including Denver, Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago.
