A man who stole and crashed a police patrol car early Friday morning in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been arrested.
According to WSOCTV, the officer whose patrol car was stolen was working off-duty at a nightclub when he received a call about a fight at a neighboring business at 2.a.m.
When the officer arrived at the scene of the fight, he got out of his patrol vehicle to speak to some witnesses and left his car running.
While the officer was questioning people, 22-year-old Kody Grayson entered the officer’s car and sped off.
Shortly after the patrol car was stolen, investigators found the vehicle, which had crashed in the woods.
The officers did not find Grayson, who had fled on foot, at the scene of the crash.
The investigators eventually found Grayson, 14 miles away from the car crash. Paramedics were called to treat the injuries Grayson sustained in the accident.
After Grayson had received treatment, the investigators took him to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with reckless driving to endanger, driving while impaired, resisting a public officer, hit and run and larceny of a motor vehicle.
