Newly released body cam video shows the moment a Miami Beach Police officer went flying into the air as he was hit by a speeding BMW.
The incident happened in October 2017.
According to CBSMiami, Officer David Cajuso was responding to the scene of an accident. The crowd and other officers were trying to stop the two people inside the BMW after they had crashed into a truck and ran a stop sign. The driver of the car, Cariann Hithon, was visiting South Beach from Maryland for her birthday. She apparently had a BAC more than double the legal limit.
After Officer Cajuso was struck by the car, another officer shot and killed Hithon. Her passenger was unharmed.
Officer Cajuso suffered some injuries but has since recovered and is back on full duty.
The Miami Beach Police Department has opened an internal affairs investigation into the shooting now the State Attorney’s Office has closed its case.
