A Baltimore police officer’s body camera was rolling when a driver crashed into a unoccupied patrol car and immediately blamed a “dumb” game — Pokemon Go.
The video, posted to YouTube by Baltimore Police, shows an officer’s body camera footage while standing with two other officers near the parked patrol car about 3:30 a.m. Monday, after completing a call for service.
A Toyota Rav-4 is then seen crashing into the patrol car.
The officers rush over to the Toyota and ask the driver, who had gotten out of the vehicle, whether the occupants of his car were OK.
“Man,” the driver says, “that’s what I get for playing this dumb [expletive] game.”
“Are you OK? I’m so sorry,” the driver says.
The officer assures the man that “nobody was in the car” at the time of the crash.
Police said the man told officers the “game” he was playing was popular smartphone app Pokemon Go. The passengers in his car were not injured.
The video ends with a reminder not to drive distracted.
