A possible family rift led a California man to drive to his brother’s Utah home, shoot and kill his brother, injure the wife, start a fire inside the home, and then get in a shootout with police, with the entire chaos being captured on a Ring doorbell camera.
According to the NY Post, Jeffery Roberts showed up at his brother’s house with a 9mm handgun, a shotgun, road flares, and more than 200 bullets.
The incident, which took place on April 27th, began with an argument on the front where Roberts confronted his brother. The two struggled and Scott Roberts, the brother, began yelling at his wife to run for safety. Jeffery then shot his brother five times and forced his way into the home. He then shot and injured Jodi Roberts.
Neighbors had heard the gunshots and called police.
Officers arrived to see Jeffery had used road flares to start a fire in the home and the attacker with a pistol aimed at them.
The officers and Jeffery Roberts exchanged gunfire before Roberts was fatally struck.
Officers then ran into the burning home to pull Jodi out to safety. Two dogs did die in the fire.
According to one of Scott Roberts daughters, there may have been a dispute over a Go Fund Me account that caused a rift within the family, though police have not given an motive.
