A doctor accused of raping two sedated patients was discovered dead in a ditch near his Florida home, police said.

Deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office were performing a welfare check for Dr. Eric Salata when they discovered his body on Monday. They responded to a wooded area near his home in Naples when his ankle monitor stopped detecting motion, according to a police report obtained by WINK-TV on Wednesday.

Officers found him after spotting his boot sticking up from the ground.

Salata also left behind two notes, his wedding ring and credit cards.

Police emphasized his death has not yet been ruled a suicide and autopsy results are pending. Foul play is not suspected at this time.

Salata was arrested earlier this month after two patients said he raped them during cosmetic procedures at the Pura Vida Medical Spa. Both alleged victims also claimed they were given alcohol and laughing gas. He was charged Nov. 21 with two counts of sexual battery to a physically helpless person in the assaults of his 51- and 73-year-old patients.
