UPDATE: One of the officers injured suffered a spinal fracture from a concrete block that was dropped on his head. St. Paul Police have also said a molotov cocktail was thrown at officers, according to Kare 11.
EARLIER: Officials say fifteen police officers and six state troopers were injured after being pelted with rocks, bottles, firecrackers and other projectiles by protesters late Saturday and early Sunday in St. Louis. More than 100 arrests were made in connection with the protests.
The protesters had caused a complete shutdown of Interstate 94 which is the main highway between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Chief of police Todd Axtell and St. Paul mayor Chris Coleman were disgusted and angry over the violence caused by protesters, according to CBS Minnesota.
“It’s really a disgrace,” Axtell said. “Protesters last night turned into criminals, and I am absolutely disgusted by the acts of some, not all, but some.”
Police utilized pepper spray to disperse the crowds and 50 of the 100 people were arrested at the interstate protest, and the other 50 later at other locations.
