A deputy learned that there is no such thing as a routine traffic stop after a near-death experience on Monday morning in Virginia’s Fairfax County.
The Fairfax County Police Officer was performing a traffic stop around 3:37 PM on Monday when a 17-year-old lost control of his BMW sports car on the opposite side of the divided highway.
Spinning out, the BMW smacked into the pulled-over car, sending the officer flying and smacking into the Ford police SUV that was filming the stop.
The officer was struck by both vehicles but was not seriously injured.
The 17-year-old was charged with reckless driving, according to ABC 6.
“The Fairfax County Police Department is relieved that this crash did not result in a tragedy,” Fairfax County Police said in a statement.
Unreal video from Fairfax County Police. Officer was doing a traffic stop near Fairfax when FCPD says a 17 yr old driving a BMW M3 over 120 mph lost control & slammed into the pulled over car. It’s a miracle but no one involved was seriously hurt. Turn the sound up to hear it. pic.twitter.com/Lg6N84PR4W

“This is an important reminder that life can change in an instant. It is the driver’s responsibility to drive safely and arrive safely,” the agency’s statement continued. “Parents and guardians should consider using this video as an opportunity to have a conversation with their teen drivers about how their driving behavior can affect the lives of others.”
