Fresno County law enforcement officers are mourning the death of one of their own after an accidental shooting Monday afternoon.
An investigation is now underway to determine exactly how the gun ‘accidently’ discharged just before 4pm Monday afternoon. The deputy, whose name has not yet been released, was rushed to the hospital, but died from his injuries a short time later.
He was reportedly working at a business park near Fresno’s Yosemite Intl Airport when the accidental shooting happened.
ABC30 reports that a huge procession of law enforcement vehicles escorted the hearse transporting the body of the fallen deputy to the coroner’s office.
Many officers from the Fresno Police Department, CHP, the Fresno Fire Department and the sheriff’s office gathered to support family and each other as news spread about the deputy’s death.
Fresno’s Sheriff Margaret Mims was expected to reveal the officer’s identity at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday.
