The deputy city manager of Daytona Beach, Florida, has resigned following his involvement in a prostitution sting.
Revealed on Tuesday, 60-year-old Gary Shimun submitted his resignation 48 hours after showing up to a nearby hotel in the hopes of having a half-hour of sex with a 22-year-old college student for $100- instead finding an undercover female deputy sheriff.
Shimun was charged on Tuesday with the second-degree misdemeanor of offering to commit prostitution. He will stop being paid by Daytona Beach on January 13, taking out his pre-scheduled vacation time as of right now.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the deputy city manager grew suspicious when he was asked to place his money on the table.
Shimun has been working for the city since September 29, 2014. At the time of the sting, Volusia County deputies stopped his truck as he drove away, but did not arrest them.
