Hartford State’s Attorney Gail Hardy has released two dashcams and a nearby NEST camera video showing a fatal officer-involved shooting that also injured a woman.
According to the Hartford Courant, the video shows a Wethersfield officer pull over Anthony “Chulo” Jose Vega Cruz. As the officer approaches the vehicle, Cruz, who was driving, pulls out and tries to escape.
A second police vehicle responding to the traffic stop cuts Cruz off and crashes into the vehicle head on.
That officer immediately gets out of the vehicle with his weapon drawn and begins to yell, “show me your hands!”
Cruz then tries to escape again, but the trailing officer then gets in front of the vehicle to cut it off.
At that moment the first officer begins to fire into the car.
Cruz is fatally wounded and the car rolls to a stop where his injured girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat, rolls out onto the ground with her hands up.
Cruz’s family hired the same attorney who represented Trayvon Martin and has been positioning the incident as a “murder.”
State police are investigating the shooting further.
