DA rules Colorado officer justified in OIS, body cam video released

A Fort Collins police officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing after a January domestic violence incident turned fatal. The Police Department released the body cam footage from officer Keith Hunter on the same day as the District Attorney’s ruling.

According to the Coloradoan, Officer Hunter shot Joshua Moore four times as he held his estranged wife hostage. Moore, after being hit by officer Hunter’s bullets, took his own life while laying on the ground.

In the video, you can hear officer Hunter telling Moore at least four times to stop. Officer Hunter did not fire his weapon until Moore fired at him.

In the DA’s letter, he points out how Moore had waited and set up his estranged wife that day. He first broke into the home with a sledgehammer and fired multiple rounds at her once she came home with her kids and a friend.

The friend and kids escaped as Moore’s estranged wife led him away from them.

She was eventually freed after the officer-involved shooting.
