A Louisiana police officer has been cleared in a shooting that involved a woman threatening violence with a pair of scissors.
In the early morning hours of October 25, Bossier City Police officer Patrick Edmond Jr., responded to a complaint of a disorderly person -identified as Shannon Rupert- at a local hotel.
Upon arrival, Edmond found Rupert brandishing a pair of scissors while on the phone behind the lobby desk. Refusing several orders to drop the improvised weapon, Rupert was hit and fatally wounded after Edmond fired two shots.
According to the Shreveport Times, Edmond was placed on administrative leave following the shooting and will remain on administrative leave until Internal Affairs can determine whether or not there were possible violations of departmental policy.
The Bossier Parish District Attorney’s Office have determined the shooting to be justified.
Edmond is also a U.S. Army veteran.
