So, it turns out the female cop that was accused of homophobia, during the arrest of Amber Heard in 2009, is openly gay.
The 30-year-old star was accused of misdemeanor domestic violence against her lover, at the time — Tasya van Ree — at the Seattle-Tacoma airport. Heard allegedly grabbed van Ree’s arm, was arrested and booked. Her mug shot was taken and she appeared in court the following day, but her lawyer reportedly sent a letter to Seattle police in 2011, asking that they erase the incident from her record.
van Ree said after the incident that the whole thing was ‘misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a powerful position’. She also alleged homophobia, according to the Daily Mail.
van Ree and Heard were together a total of five years and had a secret wedding to ‘celebrate their love’ before gay marriage was legal in California. van Ree wrote about the incident at the airport, saying: “I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which alter appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just “friends.”
Beverly Leonard, the cop who arrested Heard, is now retired. But it has since been revealed that she’s openly gay and supports domestic violence charities, the Mail reported.
All of these details coming out this week as Heard is in the midst of another battle with her estranged husband, actor Johnny Depp, whom she claims was physically and verbally abusive towards her during their short-lived marriage.
Depp, who was reportedly angered by Heard’s continued friendship with her former wife, allegedly threw his iphone at Heard, leaving her ‘battered and bruised’.
According to court documents, Heard “feared for her life” and endured “angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults” whenever she questioned Depp’s authority or disagreed with him.
