A Colorado police chief of a town with less than 1,000 people resigned after his teenage son was cited for illegally driving a police Humvee.
According to CBS News, Simla Police Chief Tony Schiefelbein admitted he allowed his 17-year-old son to drive the police-issued Humvee. He didn’t know why his son was more than 70 miles away in the town of Parker with the vehicle when he was pulled over and cited by police there.
The vehicle was equipped with lights and other emergency response equipment.
The mayor of Simla confirmed that Schiefelbein’s son was not approved to drive any city-owned vehicle.
The city had launched a disciplinary investigation into the Chief, though that will close with no final report after Schiefelbein turned in his letter of resignation.
