The California Highway Patrol released a statement on Monday concerning a collision between a biker and CHP officer on Sunday.
The incident was seen on Facebook live as it unfolded in Rancho Cucamonga, with a CHP patrol vehicle chasing down a speeding motorcycle. The cyclists filming the event were participating in a Fallen Brother Ride sponsored by the “Elite Bikerz” MC as they sat at an intersection.
As both cruiser and biker pushed through the intersection, a collision took place and the members of the Elite Bikerz sped to the scene, just as the Highway Patrolman was cuffing the rider, identified as Raul Garcia Martinez.
“You pushed him! You pushed him down … and I have it all on camera,” a woman can be heard yelling in the video.
CHP reports that the unnamed patrolman tried to stop Martinez with lights and siren but collided with him at high speed.
“For unknown reasons, the left side of the Yamaha made contact with the right side of the patrol vehicle,” the report said.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Martinez was taken to the hospital and booked on suspicion of felony evading.
