NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea is claiming the criminal justice system is “imploding” as shootings, rioting and other social maladies plague the city.
Speaking at a rather exclusive press conference on Wednesday, Shea noted a spike in shootings, as well as an issue with civil unrest.
“You have to step back and look at this. You have a criminal justice system that is imploding,” he said. “Imploding. That’s the kindest way to put it.”
According to the New York Post, while crime is down 2.5 percent for the years, shootings have gone up, and the riots and looting in NYC have been a major issue.
Furthermore, many criminal cases are lagging behind, due to a variety of reasons- including bail reform laws.
“Each one of those represents somebody not being held accountable and no consequences,” Shea said.
