A California woman who felt triggered by a Donald Trump sign on a Florida Keys business property Friday evening responded by slashing the sign and threatening the business owner with a knife, authorities say.
30-year-old Oakland resident Elizabeth McSurdy told Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies that the pro-president signs located on the business property “ruined her chill.”
Property owners told deputies that she threatened business owners, with one of the proprietors snapping a photo of the irate protestor before she fled in a vehicle.
After being pulled over by deputies, McSurdy denied any involvement until she was shown a photo of herself committing the crime.
“She denied threatening the men, but admitted to holding the knife during the confrontation,” MCSO Deputy Becky Herrin said, noting that deputies found the knife in McSurdy’s glovebox.
According to FLKeysNews, McSurdy was charged and booked with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor criminal mischief. She posted a $10,250 bond and was released Saturday morning.
