Newman Police Chief Randy Richardson lost an officer in the line of duty in 2018 and he believes if California passes a newly proposed use-of-force law, he’ll lose even more.

Chief Richardson spoke to Fox & Friends about Assembly Bill 392.

The bill would update the “reasonable” deadly force standard to “necessary.”

Richardson believes if the guidance for deadly force increases, more officers will hesitate, which would increase the likelihood that they, not the criminals, are killed.

He told Fox & Friends another side effect could be, “recruitment and retention are going to be more difficult for law enforcement.”

Chief Richardson lost Cpl. Ronil Singh in a deadly shooting the day after Christmas in 2018. Cpl. Singh was killed by an illegal immigrant suspected of driving drunk.
