A lawyer based in Hollywood, Florida is banned from all five Broward County jails after she allegedly had sex with her client inside an interview room at the main jail.

The defense attorney, 35-year-old Jessica Mishali was meeting Wednesday with her client– convicted felon, Ysreal Granda, who is 26 years old. When a deputy entered the interview room he saw Mishali “bent over a table” and said the pair was “engaged in what appeared to be sexual intercourse.”

According to the police report– when the detention deputy walked in on the two, Granda “quickly took a seat and Mishali stood upright, causing her skirt to fall back into position.”

The lawyer was detained for about two hours according to the Sun-Sentinel and deputies released her from custody. Apparently lawyer-client sex in the jail is not considered a crime.

“We did consult with the State Attorney’s Office and it does not appear that a criminal act occurred,” said Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

A memo with Mishali’s photo was posted at various jail sites, stating: “Jessica Mishali David is prohibited from entering any Broward Sheriff’s Office facility…”

The Florida Bar will investigate and if it’s found that Mishali violated a rule of conduct, she could be reprimanded or possibly even lose her law license.

Mishali is a former asst. public defender and up until this month was employed by the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel. The Sentinel reports that she was fired Jan. 4 for “misconduct in the performance of her duties.”

Mishali’s former boss, Howard Finkelstein said he had “favorable memories”of her. He said, “She did a good job for us,” referring to the Broward Public Defender’s office. Finkelstein added: “I’m shocked, if the allegations are true. I can’t really wrap my mind around it. Love can make people do crazy things.”

For now, Mishali will be allowed to represent Granda, who is jailed without bond for charges that stem from a 2012 shooting involving the mother of his 6-year-old daughter.
