A car thief living in the greater Manchester area is behind bars after he and a partner ran over a British policewoman not once, but twice.
The Greater Manchester Police said that driver Reham Baluch reversed over the officer during a carjacking, and then threw the vehicle into drive to run her over again.
GMP PC Nina Foran was investigating the assault and carjacking of a delivery driver back on May 16 when the stolen vehicle returned to the crime, with 32-year-old Baluch behind the wheel and 27-year-old Saqib Kader in the passenger seat.
After running PC Foran over, the carjackers ten crashed into several other vehicles in an attempt to escape. Both Foran and a pedestrian were taken to the hospital for injuries.
The duo made their way to Cheetham Hill, where they later abandoned the stolen car.
Only months prior, Baluch was sentenced for a similar incident, when he attempted to run over another officer in the same area where he dropped off the stolen car in May. The officer managed to escape unharmed.
Kader pleaded guilty to aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent in connection with the May carjacking, and was sentenced to one year in jaul.
Baluch faces seven years behind bars, having admitted to dangerous driving, aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent, assault, attempted assault and driving while disqualified.
According to the BBC, GMP Detective Constable Keith Holt of GMP said Baluch was “completely reckless” and “it is only down to sheer luck that more people weren’t injured”.
