Sept. 06–VIRGINIA BEACH — Two people are dead after an officer-involved shooting in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 2000 block of Lynnhaven Parkway overnight.
Virginia Beach police were called to the 7-Eleven lot after receiving information about a person of interest in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation, according to a news release issued about 1:30 a.m. That person, police said, was a passenger in a vehicle that was parked there.
As officers approached, someone inside the vehicle opened fire and one officer was shot through his clothing, but not physically struck by the bullet, the news release said. Officers returned fire, killing the driver and passenger inside the vehicle.
An infant who was also in the vehicle was not harmed, police said. The child was in the care of Child Protective Services.
Police said they have recovered a firearm from the scene.
No other details about the shooting or the related homicide investigation that brought officers to the parking lot were released.
