Infamous Irish-American mobster “Whitey” Bulger was killed shortly after transferring to a West Virginia prison.
The Boston-area gangster was killed at the Hazelton Penitentiary earlier today, according to the Boston Globe.
Bulger was serving a life sentence for eleven murders, and had recently landed at the prison after making a quick stop in Oklahoma City from a Florida prison.
WV News reported that Bulger’s health was deteriorating at 89 years of age, and that his death appeared imminent.
Hazelton is one of the federal system’s toughest prisons, with more than 1,200 inmates.
