A Dixon Police Officer is being praised by authorities for taking down an armed male suspect at Dixon High School this morning. Dixon is located approximately 100 miles west of Chicago.
When the officer confronted the gunman, the suspect opened fire on the officer. The officer then returned fire, striking the suspect and arresting him.
The gunman’s injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.
The City of Dixon released a statement that indicated no students or staff were injured during the incident and they believe that the gunman acted alone.
All area schools are currently on lockdown as a precaution and parents can pick up Dixon High School students at the nearby baseball fields in Page Park.
