A single-victim shooting has taken place at a Central Florida high school in Marion County.  The shooting victim was wounded and the suspect is in custody.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, Ocala Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have descended upon Forest High School after a student reportedly shot a fellow classmate in the leg.

The student has been taken into custody, the victim medevaced and the campus has been locked down.

“We are asking the citizens to avoid the area,” deputies said on Facebook. “Parents please stand by for further direction from the school on how to pick up your children.”

The shooting took place on the 18th anniversary of the Columbine High School and during a present era where school faculty, staff and students are frequently “walking out” to protest gun violence.

According to Click Orlando, the Marion County School System had no plans to participate in the walkouts.
