The Phoenix Police Department is in mourning this afternoon after Officer Paul Rutherford was struck by a car while he as investigating a seperate collision.
According to KTAR News, the driver of the car is in custody.
Police say Officer Rutherford died from his injuries at the hospital.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey tweeted out his sympathies for the horrible accident.

officer Rutherford has been with the department for 22 years and leaves behind a wife and two kids.
