UPDATE: The suspected shooter is now in custody, ending an active shooter situation where a gunman was targeting police and civilians.
There are no known deaths or injuries at this point.
The weapon used is being reported as “military-style,” possibly an AK-47.

Police in North Carolina responding to reports of shots fired were themselves fired upon after arriving on scene. Authorities have blocked off the road and the New Hanover Sheriff’s office is urging people to avoid the area.
