Two Canadian policemen and two civilians are dead in the town of Fredericton after a shooting took place in a residential area.
“Of the four people killed in this morning’s shootings on Brookside Drive, two were Fredericton Police officers,” the Fredericton Police Force wrote on Twitter. “No names are being released at this time. Please appreciate this is a difficult time for their families and our colleagues. We will provide more info when we can.”
The shooting took place early Friday morning, resulting in FPF evacuating a large portion of a nearby neighborhood.
During the incident, the agency took to social media and implored locals to refrain from giving away the positions of police and rescue workers.
“Please do not post information about the position or activities of police or first responders,” FPF wrote. “We are still working an active incident.”
According to the CBC, local businesses were locked up and several residents recounted hearing something that sounded like firecrackers.
“With the tempo, it might’ve been a gunshot,” one resident said. “It was sort of like a pop, pop, pop, pop.”
The identities of the casualties involved in the incident have not been released at this time.
